PAIA manual
Access to information,
responsibly.
This overview describes how GovFin (Pty) Ltd approaches requests under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA). It is a draft and remains subject to qualified South African legal review before it is relied upon as the final manual.
About PAIA
PAIA gives effect to the constitutional right of access to information. It sets out how a person may request access to records held by public and private bodies, subject to statutory protections.
Information officer
Requests are directed to the GovFin Information Officer. Contact: gershon.sibinda@govfin.co.za, +27 79 195 8088, GovFin (Pty) Ltd, R511 Provincial Road, Xanadu Eco Park, 777 Numida Park, Hartbeespoort, 0216, South Africa.
Categories of records
GovFin may hold company and statutory records, customer and account records, verification-request and evidence records, financial and tax records, and information-security and audit records. Access is subject to consent, confidentiality duties, third-party rights and legal protections.
How to make a request
Submit a written request identifying yourself, the record sought and the form of access required, and pay any prescribed fee where applicable. GovFin will respond within the periods required by law and confirm what, if anything, can be released.
Grounds for refusal
Access may be refused or limited where the law requires protection of another person's privacy, confidential or commercial information, legal privilege, safety or security, or where a request is manifestly frivolous or vexatious.
